Awards Night Recap

The winners of all the Red Wings awards were honoured Friday night along with performances from comedians Myles Morrison and Weyburn local Ryan Skjerdal.

With one game left to play in the season, the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings hosted their annual Awards and Comedy Night to honour the players and have a few laughs along the way. Below are the award winners excluding the Prairie Sky Co-op High Scorer Award as it was not handed out during the evening with one game left to play.

Weimer’s Hometown Best Defensive Forward Award

Recipient: Matthew Reidy

This award is given to the forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game while still showing skill and a drive to win.

NSWB Outstanding Community Service Award

Recipient: Ty Mason

This player exemplified leadership on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.

York Jewelers Most Improved Player Award

Recipient: Nick Kovacs

This player has improved from day one with the team on and off the ice.  His abilities allowed him to portray his talents with the club while improving his abilities throughout the season.

 

Weyburn Security Most Valuable Defenseman Award

Recipient: Blake Norris

This award is given to the defenseman who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position.

KFC Most Popular Player Award as Voted by the Fans

Recipient: Ty Mason

The player who exemplifies great leadership qualities to his team, on and off the ice during the regular season as voted by the fans.

Marcel Labelle Memorial Dedication & Ability to the Game of Hockey Award sponsored by Remax Weyburn

Recipient: Blake Norris and Ty Mason

This player is considered to be the most dedicated to their team. The player would show this by being the best teammate possible, showing leadership by being one of the hardest, most consistent workers, by listening to their coaches, working hard in games and practices, showing good sportsmanship in all circumstances.

Barber Motors Most Valuable Forward Award 

Recipient: Ryley Morgan

This award is given to the forward who is the most valuable forward compared to his peers.

Larry’s Sewer Service Rookie of the Year

Recipient: Lucas Jeffreys

This player entered his first year of junior hockey this year, and showcases his talents and abilities both on and off the ice.

Razorback Oilfield Services Outstanding Ability & Gentlemanly Conduct

Recipient: Jakob Kalin

This player exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability.

GeoVerra Unsung Hero Award

Recipient: Max Monette and Ian Maier

The Unsung Hero award recognizes a player who has positively influenced the team from behind the scenes with a positive attitude, a willingness to improve in whatever capacity necessary, and a commitment to excellence.

Kingston Midstream Most Popular Player Award as Voted by the Team

Recipient: Jackson Hassman

The player who exemplifies great leadership qualities to his team, on and off the ice during the regular season as voted by the team.

Graham Christie Memorial Most Inspirational Red Wing Award Sponsored by the Weyburn Police Association

Recipient: Matthew Reidy

This player wears his heart on his sleeve. He is the player who exudes his love of hockey; encourages his teammates to keep trying, no matter how dire the circumstances and looks for his weaknesses and always tries to improve.

Weyburn Credit Union Most Valuable Player Award 

Recipient: Ryley Morgan

This player deserves this award for his efforts both on and off the ice.  Work ethic and dedication towards the team are well showcased. Respects the game and gives full respect to his teammates.
