Four Weyburn Red Wings represented the team at the 2023-24 SJHL/MJHL Showcase, a two-day 6-game event that sees All Star players from the SJHL take on the All Stars of the MJHL. Three players were on the 20U Team Gold: Jerome Maharaj, assistant captain Tyler Teasdale, and captain Max Monette. The lone Red Wings representative on the 18U Team Blue was Cade Meiklejohn.

Team Gold started off the tournament against the MJHL’s Team Red, and Teasdale was uncredited for an assist on the first goal of the tournament. Later in the game, Monette and Maharaj would both get a whack at a rebound in front of the net, Monette picking up an assist and Maharaj getting the goal. Overall, each player earned a point in the first game that saw the SJHL come away with a 5-2 victory.  With a loss on the second day to Team Black 4-2, Team Gold would finish with a 1-1 record.

As for Meiklejohn’s Team Blue, they would start the tournament with a tight 3-2 win over Team White. In the rematch between Team Blue and White, Meiklejohn would score the second goal of the game with a great wrist shot on the rush, which would help the SJHL rookie squad to a 5-2 win.

Overall, each Red Wing that went to the showcase would earn a point, although Teasdale did not have his recorded on the scoresheet.

“The SJHL/MJHL Showcase was good, the four guys that we had there played well,” said Red Wings Head Coach and GM Cody Mapes, who attended the showcase. “It was competitive games and the gap is so tight from top of the rosters to the bottom. Every guy has a chance to make an impact and I thought our guys over the two games each all had moments where they impacted the game in a positive way.”

The SJHL won five out of the six games at the SJHL/MJHL Showcase.
