Red Wings Announce new Assistant Coach

The Weyburn Red Wings are pleased to announce the newest addition to hockey operations, with the hiring of Brock Appleyard as the new Assistant Coach for the upcoming 2016-2017 season.

“He recently completed his 5 seasons of CIS hockey with the U of R Cougars, and comes to the team with fresh ideas, a high hockey IQ, and a some very good connections,” stated Wes Rudy, Head Coach on the decision. “He’s young, energetic, and showed great leadership as Captain when he played with the Red Wings, which he will bring into his new role.”

As a player with the Weyburn Red Wings from 2008-2011, this marks a return to the organization for Appleyard. When asked about the new role, Brock said, “I’m excited to be back in Weyburn and looking forward to this opportunity.”

General Manager, Tanner McCall remarks, “We are thrilled to add Brock to our program here in Weyburn. Not only was Brock a good player but he was a well- respected teammate and member of the community while he was here playing for the Red Wings. Brock will do a great job with our organization, and should be a valuable tool in preparing our boys to play at the highest level possible.”

With this announcement, the Weyburn Red Wings new staff are looking ahead to the upcoming season, with the strong list of new prospects and returning players at the Fall Camp September 3-5th, and leading into the home opener on September 17th against the Yorkton Terriers.
