The Weyburn Red Wings played at Crescent Point Place for the first time since September 15th Saturday night. They came away with their first win at the home arena of the season, as they beat the Melfort Mustangs 3-2 in overtime.

The Red Wings dominated the play of the first period and entered the locker room after the first period with a 1-0 lead thanks to Ben Hiltz. The second-year forward notched his third of the season, beating Melfort goaltender Evan Plotnik just past the halfway mark of the first period. Cole Woodliffe and Shae Kiryk were credited with the assists on the goal.

The Wings then took a 2-0 lead when Woodliffe netted his second of the season, unassisted, just four minutes into the middle frame.

The Mustangs would reply seven minutes later when Kalem Zary beat Arik Weersink with a wrist shot off a rebound. Eric McNeilly, the original shooter was given the assist. Melfort would even the game up in the third period when Zach Anderson scored his first of the campaign.

The game went to overtime, where the Wings used their speed to their advantage. They also took advantage of Mustangs coach Trevor Blevins electing to put two defensemen and one forward onto the ice for the 3-on-3 period, while the Wings went with two speedy forwards, and an offensive defenseman. The offensive choice worked for Weyburn, as Mike Eskra took a feed from Landon Walters, and buried a one-timer behind Plotnik, giving the Red Wings the win.

Weyburn will now have an off-day Sunday, before practices resume Monday, ahead of their next game. On Wednesday, they will host the La Ronge Ice Wolves at Crescent Point Place.
