Simon was nominated for this award because of how influential he is outside of the game of hockey. Here’s what his billet mom, Kennedy Rainey had to say about him:

“Simon always has a positive attitude, is always willing to help out at home or in the community and is great influence to those who look up to him especially his billet siblings.
While watching his billet brother at canskate, a little boy came up to him and introduced himself. You could quickly realize this little boy was a big fan. After this meeting, he took the time to deliver a signed Red Wing poster to the boy at his house.
He is a great example of being an everyday hero not only to his billet kids but to those in the community as well!”

“Simon is a guy who goes the extra mile, not only at home with his billet siblings and volunteering in the community, but also at the rink. He stays late to change the laundry, picks pucks up pucks after practice and is the first guy in line to help unload the bus after roads trips. I couldn’t think of a guy more deserving to be the everyday hero!” – 20 year old teammate Liam Fitzgerald
