The 2025 SJHL has concluded with the Red Wings making a total of 5 picks in the draft. Here is a recap of each selection:
2010 Born Draft
Round 1 Pick 10 – Kobe DECK
Kobe Deck played for the Estevan Bears U18 AAA in the SMAAAHL. The 2010 defenceman started off last season with the Estevan Bears U15 AA putting up 25 points in 26 games (8G 17A). He was promoted to the U18 AAA team playing in 6 games as a 14 year old. Deck is from Sedley, SK and we can’t wait to see what his future has with the Red Wings!

Round 2 Pick 13 – Weston KOSTIUK
Weston Kostiuk played for the Warman Wildcats U18 AAA in the SMAAAHL. The 2010 forward played in 29 games with the Martensville Marauders U15 AA totalling 61 points in 29 games (40G, 21A). He was a true force, and made his way to the Wildcats U18 AAA playing in 2 games with 1 goal and 1 assist. He was also drafted by the Swift Current Broncos in the 5th round of the 2025 WHL Draft. Kostiuk is from Martensville, SK and we are excited to see what he brings to the Red Wings!

2009 Born Draft
Round 1 Pick 3 – Van HUEBNER
The Red Wings made a decision going into the draft to trade up for the 3rd overall pick for someone they believe will make an impact. Van Huebner signed with the Estevan Bears U18 AAA in April after a great season with Prairie Hockey Academy U17 Prep in the CSSHL. He finished the season with 16 points in 36 games (2G, 14A). He is also from right here in Weyburn, and we can’t wait to see him in a Red Wings jersey!

Round 5 Pick 58 – Karter HILBIG
Karter Hilbig played for Prairie Hockey Academy U17 Prep in the CSSHL. The 2009 goalie played in 17 games putting up a 3.01 GAA and a .886 SV% with 1 shutout. He had the opportunity to join the U18 team, and did not disappoint with a shutout in his lone contest with the team. He was also drafted by the Moose Jaw Warriors in the 10th round of the 2024 WHL draft. Hilbig is from Saskatoon, and we can’t wait to see him between the pipes in the future!

Round 6 Pick 70 – Connor HOWE
Connor Howe played for the Prince Albert Mintos U18 AAA In the SMAAHL. The 2009 forward played in 41 games totalling 35 points (20G, 15A). Connor is the brother of Tanner Howe, who was drafted by the Red Wings in 2nd overall in 2020 and is now signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Connor is following his WHL footsteps being drafted by the Red Wings, but was also drafted in the 2nd round of the 2024 WHL Draft by the Prince Albert Raiders. We hope to see him in a Red Wings jersey, and grow his game as he pushes for the WHL!
