As the long off-season progresses the Weyburn Red Wings have announced another pair of commitments for the 2019/2020 season.

Forwards Tristyn Bryks and Jaegar Lapointe will suit up in the red and white in the fall. Both are 2001-born wingers who are completing their Midget AAA careers.

Bryks spent this season with the Saskatoon Blazers and is still in the midst of a playoff run. In 29 games he scored 10 goals and added another 10 assists. He also had 20 penalty minutes during the regular season.

“He can play a solid two-way game and contribute in a number of areas. We’re excited to add Tristyn to the fold,” Red Wings GM Tanner McCall said.

A native of Luseland, Sask. the 5’9 winger uses great speed to his advantage. His Blazers team is in the SMAAAHL league finals against the Notre Dame Hounds and the winner will move on to the Western regionals with a chance to qualify for the Telus Cup.

Meanwhile, Lapointe just wrapped up his third and final year as a member of the Parkland Rangers Midget AAA team. He had career highs this season in goals (22) and PIMS (132). Over the course of three years, Lapointe tallied 40 goals, 64 assists and 104 points in 133 games.

“Jaegar has the skill and hockey IQ to put up points while he is not afraid to mix it up,” McCall said. “After three seasons of Midget AAA, he is ready to take the next step into Junior hockey.”

He’s listed at 5’10 and 180 lbs so size won’t be an issue when making the jump from Midget to Junior.

Hailing from Ste. Rose, Man. Jaegar was drafted by the Neepawa Natives of the MJHL. He played a total of five games for them over the course of two seasons. Now, he’s bringing his talents and experience to Weyburn for next season.

Lapointe and Bryks join Liam RuttenJoseph YoungBraden Birnie and Luke Arndt as other Wings commits for next season.
