Two Big Games Lead Into Red Wings Christmas Break

Finishing off six home games in a row before the Christmas break, the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings have two big out of division games. The Red Wings split their last weekend set with a dominant win over the Kindersley Klippers, followed by a heartbreaking loss against the Melfort Mustangs.

Now the Red Wings play their final home game of 2022 against the Notre Dame Hounds in their first matchup of the season against one another. The Hounds have only won a single game out of their last five, including a shootout loss to last place Kindersley, but the lone win they’ve picked up was over the Humboldt Broncos.

Notre Dame plays a hard, gritty game by chipping pucks around defenders and getting people in front of the net, so a big key to tonight’s game will be a defensive net front presence for the Red Wings to clear out the Hounds trying to provide a screen.

The two teams split the season series last year 2-2, but the Hounds have been had decent success in Weyburn over the last five years with a record of 6-1-1 when visiting Weyburn.

In Saturday’s game, the Red Wings will finish off 2022 on the road for the first time since November 19 when they pay a visit to the Humboldt Broncos. The two teams have played each other twice this season, both times in Weyburn, and the two teams have split high scoring games.

With Humboldt being a fast, young team with a solid powerplay, the key for the Red Wings will be staying away from the penalty box and keeping the Broncos forwards to the outside on their entry into the offensive zone.

Puck drops tonight at 7:00pm at Crescent Point Place against the Hounds, while tomorrow’s game you can listen in on Big 106 live from Humboldt.
