A late charge in the third period wasn't enough for the Red Wings to mount a comeback and snap their losing streak. Multiple chances were denied in the dying seconds to shut the door on the Red Wings, as Melfort handed them their seventh straight defeat with a thrilling 6–5 win.

The two teams went back-and-forth all night long in a game that featured a little bit of everything. Goals, great saves, a fight and some crazy bounces were all featured in one of the most exciting Red Wings games of the season.

Melfort opened the scoring at 5:50 of the first period courtesy of Tyson Meyers. However, the red and white would equal things up through 20 minutes. Their special teams has been a strength through 13 games and it was a powerplay marker from Jordan Kazymyra that got them on the board. His sixth of the year had the teams even after one.

Forward Connor Pyne continued his great play following his return to the lineup. He was sprung by Garrett Szeremley on a breakaway and made no mistake for his third goal of the year. The teams continued to trade goals in the second, with Zach Anderson tying it up for the Mustangs after a brutal turnover in the Wings zone.

Weyburn took back the lead when Cade Kowalski took a beautiful feed from Dylan McCabe and was sent in all alone. The captain made a move to the backhand and snuck it past Jack Walters for his seventh goal of the campaign. Melfort's Walters had allowed three goals on 10 shots and was pulled by Head Coach Trevor Blevins.

The move appeared to spark the Mustangs as captain Carson Albrecht tied it back up at three just 72 seconds later. Melfort came into tonight third in the league in powerplay percentage, and finished 2–6 in the game.

Defenceman Carson Scheschuk would give the Red Wings a 4–3 lead after 40 minutes to cap off a wild middle period. Following an outstanding save by Riley Lamb robbing Melfort of a sure goal, Scheschuk took the puck the length of the ice and floated a backhander past Hunter Arps. Garrett Szeremley and Kyle Schneider also dropped the gloves and had a spirited tilt at the halfway point of the period.

Melfort took the game over in the third with a trio of goals in the first 9:15 to jump out to a 6–4 lead over the visitors. The Wings would wake up after that and start throwing everything they had at Walters, who had made his way back between the pipes for the final period. Ben Hiltz tallied his 11th of the year on a boucning puck in tight that cut the lead to just one.

In the final minutes Kowalski, Brown and Kazymyra all had great chances in tight but were turned aside by Walters. The Mustangs hung on and walked away with their ninth win of the sason. The Red Wings on the otherhand fall to 5–8–1. They'll be back in action Wednesday on the road in La Ronge to take on the Ice Wolves and aim to snap their seven-game slump.
