Mason Wins SJHL MVP of the Week With Help From Newly Acquired Morgan

Ty Mason and Ryley Morgan celebrate afterconnecting on one of their five goals the two put in the back of the net in just two games.

With seven points in just three games, Ty Mason has ben named as the SJHL MVP of the Week for the week of Nov 27-Dec 3.

His week started on Tuesday against the Yorkton Terriers where Mason earned his first point of the week on an assist to a Jakob Kalin goal in the first period that would become the eventual game winner. He’d score later in the first period when he was given a great behind the back pass from Ethan Whillans for the easy tap in.

In between Tuesday’s game against Yorkton and Friday’s game against La Ronge, the Red Wings would add Ryley Morgan in a trade with the Ice Wolves, which would be key to Mason’s success in the next two games.

Morgan-Mason connection would pay dividends early in Friday’s game with the Ice Wolves when two minutes in Mason stole the puck at centre ice and went in on a 2-on-1 with Morgan. A pass to Morgan would get returned to Mason for the onetimer. In the second period, Morgan would send a gorgeous feed through traffic on the powerplay to find Mason, who hammered it home for his second goal of the game.

In Saturday’s game with Humboldt, Mason would get another goal off a Morgan assist when Morgan helped turn the puck over behind the net, giving it to Mason for the wraparound in front. In the second period, Morgan would spring Mason on a breakaway with a pass from his own end, and Mason would finish by being hooked to the ice and still scoring from his stomach. Morgan would score in the third period as well by cleaning up a rebound, and Mason would earn his second assist and his seventh point of the week.

In just two games, Morgan had the primary assist on four goals from Ty Mason, and with Morgan scoring his first goal as a Red Wing, Mason would pick up an assist on the play as the two combined for 10 points in just two games.

The two will look to keep their momentum rolling to get the Red Wings back in the win column against the Kindersley Klippers on December 9th.
