Exhibition Game #1 vs Notre Dame Hounds

RED WINGS START THE PRESEASON WITH A WIN!

With only three returning Red Wings on the roster, it was a time for the rookies to shine at last night’s exhibition game 3-1 win against the Notre Dame Hounds.

With Cody Levesque in net for Weyburn and Patrick Ostermann in net for Notre Dame, the first period ended 0-0.

The second period started with Notre Dame’s Owen Sikich scoring the first goal of the game.  The Red Wings were quick to respond, with Nathan Gelsinger scoring the Red Wings first goal of the night, with Dempsey assisting.

Halfway through the period, the teams changed goaltenders, with Trevor Withers coming in for the Wings, and Tripp Hutchinson for the Hounds.

Brayden Cockwill’s goal gave the Red Wings a 2-1 lead, assisted by Jacob Cronin, younger brother of former captain Josh Cronin.

As the action continued, the Red Wings scored early in the third period, defenseman Devon Becker took a pass from  Jarrett Metheral and Aiden Wagner to shoot one past Hutchinson to make it a 3-1 game.

The rematch takes place Wednesday night, when the Red Wings travel to Wilcox to take on the Notre Dame Hounds.  Thursday night, the Red Wings travel to Estevan to face the Bruins and finish the preseason games at home Friday night, against the Estevan Bruins.
