SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Justin Buzzeo, Humboldt Broncos
1990 F Justin Buzzeo (Windsor ON) led all SJHL players with 5-goals and 2-assists in 3-games played over the past seven days.  Despite a pair of losses to end the week, Buzzeo was very effective in the offensive zone scoring all three of Humboldt’s goals.  He began the week with a four point performance in a blowout win over La Ronge.  For the season, Buzzeo has 18-goals and 31-assists in 47-games to lead all SJHL rookies.
Runners-up:  Gary Childerhose, Melfort; Andrew Dommett, Kindersley; Johnny Calkins, Kindersley; Shay Neufeld, Battlefords.

 

SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK
Blaine Tendler, Yorkton Terriers
1990 D Blaine Tendler (Viceroy SK) helped the Terriers earn a split in Flin Flon over the weekend by contributing a goal and two assists in two games played.  Tendler, a Western Hockey League veteran who joined Yorkton in December, now has 1-goal and 6-assists in 19-games on the year.

Runners-up:  Lee Christensen, Melfort; Jordan Reeve, Melville; Cristopher Neurauter, Estevan.

 

SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK
AJ Whiffen, Weyburn Red Wings
1989 G AJ Whiffen (Grand Falls Windsor NF) made one start last week and backstopped his team to victory by making 30-saves in a 3-1 win over the La Ronge Ice Wolves.  Whiffen lowered his regular season GAA to 2.24 and his SPCT increased to .922.  Overall, his record is 18-3-and-3.  Since December 1st, Whiffen has been pretty close to unbeatable, with a sparkling 1.48-GAA and a .944-SPCT.

SJHL PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Travis Janke, Notre Dame Hounds

1989 F Travis Janke (Swift Current SK) is the SJHL Player Of The Month for the second month in a row after he compiled 15-goals and 16-assists in 15-games played.  Janke’s torried two months have put him in a solid position to win the SJHL scoring title.  Janke has been held off the score sheet only twice since November 30th (a span of 25 games).  For the season, Janke now has 35-goals and 40-assists in 48-games.
Runners-up:  Kyle Ireland, Notre Dame; Todd Chinova, Melfort; Blake Peake, Battlefords; Gary Childerhose, Melfort.

 

SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE MONTH
Jesse Lebreton, Battlefords North Stars

1989 D Jesse Lebreton (Mont Laurier QC) led all SJHL blueliners in offensive production during the month of January with 4-goals and 8-assists in 11-games played.  Lebreton was able to use the month to boost his overall totals to 12-goals and 19-assists in 44-games as he leads the North Star defense down the stretch and into the playoffs.  He contributed to the scoresheet in nine of eleven games in January.

Runners-up:  Mike Alexander, La Ronge; Justin Hollinger, Melville; Carson Grolla, Notre Dame; Andrew Perrault, Weyburn.

 

SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH
AJ Whiffen, Weyburn Red Wings

For the second month in a row, 1989 G AJ Whiffen (Grand Falls Windsor NF) is the SJHL Goaltender Of The Month.  Whiffen went 6-and-1 in seven starts and posted a miniscule 1.71-GAA and a .935-SPCT.  Whiffen is 18-3-and-3 and he leads the league with a 2.24-GAA and his .922-SPCT ranks third overall.

SJHL ROOKIE OF THE MONTH
Drew George, Weyburn Red Wings

1991 F Drew George (Regina SK) made his SJHL debut just after the Christmas Break and he continues to improve with each passing game.  George scored 6-goals and 8-assists in 12-games for the Wings during the month of January.  The Wings acquired his rights during the Holiday Season from the British Columbia Hockey League.  He is a former scoring star with the Notre Dame Hounds of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League.
Runners-up:  Josh Thorimbert, Kindersley; Trevor Cameron, Notre Dame; Jesse Mireau, Melfort; Jeff Lorenz, Nipawin; Russell Abbott, Notre Dame.
